MP Tigran Abrahamyan slams police over force against ARF protesters in Yerevan
MP Tigran Abrahamyan from the opposition With Honor faction denounced police officers for using force against protesters outside a Yerevan hotel late on Tuesday.
Police officers used force to detain young members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) party protesting outside Armenia Marriott Hotel against the arrival of two Azerbaijani MPs in Yerevan for the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly meetings.
"Understandably, the authorities are obliged to ensure the security of official delegations, including Azerbaijanis, visiting Armenia within the framework of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly or any other format, but the means used to clamp down on the public reaction are unacceptable,” Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook.
He says the “rude remarks” of some police officers about protesters and their unreasonable use of force are “simply incomprehensible”.
“I wonder how the Armenian Police chief feels watching the footage of disproportionate police actions on social media, whether he thinks about those who were killed in the 44-day war, including numerous police officers.
“Have dignity, courage, humanity, morality, and the Armenian identity died out in you?” Take this one away, take that one away, take the third one... just take your Nikol away!
“And in general, get together and go to join your Turkish and Azerbaijani brothers. You deserve each other,” the MP said.
