Judge denies motion of Kocharyan’s lawyer to apply to Constitutional Court
Judge Anna Danibekyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, who is presiding over the trial of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan and former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan, who is now an opposition MP, on Wednesday denied a defense motion to apply to the Constitutional Court.
The motion had been filed by Kocharyan’s lawyer Hayk Alumyan due to the uncertainty over the charges against his client.
He argues that the law which does not enable the court to clarify the charges runs counter to Article 67 (Point 1) and Article 63 (Part 1) of Armenia’s Constitution.
The ruling can be appealed in the Court of Appeals within 10 days.
The next hearing in the case was scheduled for March 15.
