New Armenian president to swear in on March 13
Armenia’s new President Vahagn Khachaturyan will take an oath of office on March 13, the parliament reported on Friday.
The inauguration of Armenia’s fifth president will be held at a special parliament session in Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex in Yerevan.
The Armenian parliament elected Khachaturyan, who served as high-tech industry minister, as the country’s new president in a vote boycotted by the opposition factions on Thursday.
He had been nominated for the post by the ruling Civil Contract faction.
Khachaturyan received 71 votes to be elected president in a second round of voting. His predecessor, Armen Sarkissian, submitted resignation in January.
