Kamo Kochunts declines to comment on his possible appointment as Armenian army chief
The Armenian military’s top brass visited today Yerablur Military Pantheon in Yerevan to pay tribute to Sparapet (Chief Commander) Vazgen Sargsyan, an outstanding Armenian military and political figure. He would have turned 63 on March 5.
Kamo Kochunts, the caretaker chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, was among the top military officials visiting the pantheon, Tert.am reported.
Asked whether he had any concerns about the possible politicization of the army in case the General Staff chief was installed as Armenia’s deputy defense minister, Kochunts said: "The army has not been and will not be politicized.”
In the meantime, he refused to answer a question about his possible appointment as the General Staff chief.
“Thank you, take care!" he said.
