Russia declares ceasefire in 4 Ukrainian cities for evacuations
The Russian military has announced a ceasefire in four Ukrainian cities from 10am Moscow time on Monday to allow for civilian evacuations, TASS reports, citing Russia’s Inter-Agency Humanitarian Response Coordination Center.
"Considering the catastrophic humanitarian situation and its dramatic deterioration in the cities of Kiev, Kharkov, Sumy and Mariupol, and also at the personal request by President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, the Armed Forces of Russia announce a ceasefire from 10:00 on March 7, 2022 for humane purposes and are opening humanitarian corridors," the statement reads.
More than 1.2 million people have fled Ukraine into neighbouring countries since Russia launched a military operation on February 24, according to United Nations figures released on Friday.
