Yerevan court again bans MP Armen Gevorgyan from leaving country
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction on Tuesday continued hearings in a case involving Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan and MP Armen Gevorgyan from the opposition Hayastan faction.
Gevorgyan’s lawyer Lusine Sahakyan asked the court to lift a travel ban imposed on her client and allow him to leave for Rome to attend a meeting of the PACE Sub-Committee on Children set for April 6-9, Kocharyan’s lawyers said in a statement.
She argued that the MP cannot participate in it remotely.
The other defense lawyers joined the motion, however the prosecutors objected, recalling that the court had previously rejected Gevorgyan’s similar requests.
Presiding judge Anna Danibekyan denied the motion, barring the lawmaker from leaving the country.
