Azerbaijani invasion of area of Russian peacekeepers' responsibility in Artsakh continues, Armenia says
Armenia’s Foreign Ministry states with satisfaction that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries have delivered a clear assessment of the latest escalation of the situation in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), acknowledging that it is a consequence of the movements of Azerbaijani troops, it said in a statement on Monday.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that it urged Azerbaijan to withdraw its forces. On March 27, it issued a statement stating that the Azerbaijani side had withdrawn its troops from the Parukh settlement in Artsakh.
"Nevertheless, we are compelled to note that the incursion of the Azerbaijani units into Nagorno-Karabakh in the area of responsibility of the Russian Federation’s peacekeeping contingent is ongoing, as shown in the attached maps,” the Armenian ministry said, sharing two maps.
“We expect the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation in Nagorno-Karabakh to take concrete measures to stem the incursion of Azerbaijani units into the area of peacekeepers’ responsibility and to withdraw the Azerbaijani armed forces. We consider it important to conduct a proper investigation into the actions of the peacekeeping contingent during this entire period of the incursion of Azerbaijani forces, and answer a number of questions,” reads the statement.
Note on the attached maps
In both maps, the outline of the responsibility area of the Russian peacekeeping contingent is taken from the website of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The map describing the situation on March 24, 2022 clearly shows that there are no Azerbaijani military bases in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno Karabakh.
The map indicating the situation at 9 a.m. on March 28, 2022 shows that Azerbaijani military bases are deployed in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno Karabakh.
