Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan back to public life after release
Arush Arushanyan, the opposition mayor of the Armenian town of Goris and the surrounding villages, has announced his comeback to public life after being released from custody earlier this week.
“I am returning to public life after a long break,” he wrote on Facebook on Thursday, adding “nothing has changed” during that period.
"Our task remains unchanged: to regain and to restore our unity again, to move forward with the same determination and will. I would like to express my deep gratitude to all those who stayed loyal, showing selfless dedication, who believed in the principles and values we had adopted and expressed their concerns and support for me when I was in prison,” Arushanyan said.
“Everything can be overcome if there is will, determination and unity. Thank you to all for your support, trust and faith!” the mayor noted.
Arush Arushanyan was handed a suspended six-month jail term and was set free on 28 March nine months after being arrested on a series of charges strongly denied by him as politically motivated.
