Armenian emergencies minister arrested as part of corruption probe
Armenia’s Minister of Emergency Situations Andranik Piloyan has been arrested as part of a corruption probe in his ministry.
A massive investigation conducted by the National Security Service (NSS) has revealed numerous cases of bribery, abuse of office and large-scale embezzlement in the ministry, the NSS said in a statement on Thursday.
The suspects in the case include Andranik Piloyan, his advisor, as well as more than 10 employees of the ministry.
In particular, Piloyan is accused of accepting a bribe from a contractor in exchange for taking actions in his capacity as minister in favor of the company.
Piloyan has been charged with three counts of bribery under Article 311 (Part 3, Clause 3). He was arrested on Wednesday. A motion to keep him in pre-trial custody has been fined to the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.
