Ex-minister Andranik Piloyan appeals against arrest ruling
Armenia's former Minister of Emergency Situations Andranik Piloyan has appealed against a ruling to remand him into pre-trial custody.
His lawyer said the appeal was filed to a higher court on Tuesday.
“Today I lodged an appeal with the Court of Appeals,” Piloyan’s lawyer Tigran Sargsyan told Armenpress.
Andranik Piloyan was arrested on bribery charges last week.
Several other senior officials were also arrested as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into “numerous cases” of bribery, abuse of office and large-scale embezzlement in the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the National Security Service said.
In particular, Piloyan is accused of receiving a bribe from a private contractor in exchange for making decisions that benefited it.
