Artsakh lawmaker: None of us wants war, but peace comes with a price
Artsakh MP David Ishkhanyan from the ARF faction states the Artsakh people stand for peace, but it may come at too high a price for them.
“None of us present here is against peace or wants war, but the opening of an “era of peace” comes with a price. What price will this peace have?” he told a special sitting of the Artsakh National Assembly on Wednesday, referring to the upcoming meeting of Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev in Brussels.
The talks are expected to focus on a “peace treaty” between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Baku has named five principles it wants the peace deal to be based on, including mutual recognition of each other's territorial integrity. Pashinyan has publicly announced that they are essentially acceptable to Yerevan.
“One question I am interested in is whether this package has been discussed with us. Are we, the parliamentarians, aware of the processes around which negotiations are taking place?" the deputy said.
Ishkhanyan stresses they are obliged to prevent the process they are concerned about, adding, "but if we fail to do so, future generations will have to prevent it."
"There was a very interesting story titled “Tomorrow will be too late” in our school book. I think tomorrow will be too late" he said.
