EU welcomes direct contacts between Armenian, Azerbaijani FMs
EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar has welcomed Monday’s phone call between the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers as an “Important development”.
“Important development following last week’s Brussels meeting. The European Union is supportive of direct contacts & engagement,” he said in a tweet.
The conversation came after Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held talks in Brussels hosted by European Council President Charles Michel. They agreed to instruct their foreign ministers to begin preparations for a peace treaty and to set up a joint commission tasked with delimiting the Armenian-Azerbaijani border by the end of April.
