Armenian Foreign Ministry concerned about move to bar opposition MPs from entering Artsakh
The Foreign Ministry of Armenia has expressed concern over the Russian peacekeepers’ move to bar Armenian opposition MPs from entering Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) on Tuesday.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia is concerned about the fact that the servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh did not allow a group of deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia to enter Nagorno-Karabakh,” it said in a statement.
“This action contradicts the trilateral statement of November 9, which envisages the unimpeded connection of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia through the Lachin corridor. All parties to the statement must strictly adhere to the latter’s letter and spirit, as well as fulfill its obligations,” the ministry underscored.
Several dozen lawmakers representing the opposition Hayastan and With Honor (Pativ Unem) blocs headed to Artsakh after announcing a boycott of the four-day parliament session. However, the Russian peacekeepers in the Lachin corridor did not allow them to enter Artsakh without providing any explanations.
