Ex-SRC chief: Situation around Artsakh not good 'to put it mildly'
Davit Ananyan, the former head of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC), on Monday joined an indefinite protest being held in Yerevan’s Liberty Square since Sunday evening.
The protest has been initiated by Artur Vanetsyan, who leads the opposition With Honor parliamentary faction and the Homeland Party.
Ananyan told reporters that he came to Liberty Square to “greet” his friends.
"I have never been engaged in active politics, so consider it my civic duty to come here," Ananyan said.
He said he was concerned about the situation in the country and could not find the right words to describe the developments around Artsakh.
"The situation, to put it mildly, is not good," Ananyan said, stressing that a voluntary change of power should have taken place in Armenia in November 2020.
Speaking about the possible opening of the Armenian-Turkish border, the former official said it may pose big risks to Armenia’s economy.
At the same time, Ananyan underscored that Armenian-Turkish relations should be normalized, but only when “it is the right time”.
“We should all strive for peace, but it should be done at the right time,” he said.
