Tigran who fell in 2020 Artsakh war was often called 'young Leonardo DiCaprio'
The Insurance Foundation for Servicemen has shared the story of Tigran Harutyunyan, an Armenian soldier who fell in the 44-day war in Artsakh in 2020.
"He was an artist in every way: his good look, attractiveness and artistry left him with no choice but the stage and the big screen. His friends often called Tigran a young Leonardo DiCaprio,” the fund said in a Facebook post.
After studying at a college of dance arts and performing for many years with various dance troupe, Tigran decided to enter the Yerevan Institute of Theater and Cinematography. As a student, he joined the Amaras Dance Ensemble and went on tours abroad with them, particularly to Paris and Moscow.
Tigran was not trained as an actor, but due to his innate talent he received many offers to appear in music videos of the Armenian show business stars. He appeared in the sitcom "Outdance” and danced at the Hakob Paronyan State Musical Comedy Theater, the foundation says.
“Tigran entered the university for free education and was drafted into the Armenian army later than his peers. We were glad at the time that he would finish his studies and only then would fulfil his military service. How could we have known what lied ahead of us?” says Tigran's mother, Liana.
According to Tigran's friends, it was impossible to be sad and bored with him. He remained positive and optimistic under any circumstances. He was an extreme enthusiast and even bought himself a motorcycle.
Tigran served in Artsakh’s Hadrut region, where he was stationed during the war. His comrades-in-arms described him as a brave and strong-willed soldier ready to come to the aid of his friends. That's how, rushing to help, he was wounded by an Azerbaijani drone strike. He was fatally wounded by a second strike along with his friends on his way to the hospital on October 11, 2020.
Tigran was deeply attached to his mother; they were always together, building common dreams and goals․ "I always thought that should something happen to Tigran, I would not live. But now I continue living thanks to the strength I received from Tigran. He used to say, “Mom, no more crying.” And now I continue my life with my head held high, trying to be strong for Tigran's sake. I am not angry, because he wasn't like that either," she says.
"Honor and glory to all the brave men who sacrificed themselves for our homeland! Tigran Harutyunyan's family is a beneficiary of the Insurance Foundation for Servicemen. Its funds are generated by us, the citizens of Armenia and Artsakh, the Armenians scattered all over the world. Providing regular financial compensation is the least we can do in memory of our brave soldiers, for the peace of our souls," it said.
