Chief prosecutor: 1,698 people prosecuted for corruption offences in Armenia in 2021
Fighting corruption remained a top priority for the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office in 2021, Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan said at a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs on Friday, summing up the activities of the law enforcement agency.
The chief prosecutor said that corruption cases were launched against 1,698 people last year, adding 600 of them were officials.
He noted that law enforcement authorities completed the probes and indicted 433 people for corruption crimes.
"By the end of the year, the damage caused to the state revealed during the investigation of corruption cases stood at 443 billion drams. 7 billion drams in damages were recovered during probes,” Davtyan said.
Also, he said in the first quarter of 2022 his agency recovered 19 billion drams in damages to the state, adding it testifies that the corruption cases that were opened long ago are reaching their conclusion.
