Paris mayor hosts reception to mark Armenian Genocide anniversary
Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo hosted a reception to mark the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, the Armenian Embassy in France reported on Saturday.
The reception was attended by MPs and representatives of the Armenian community. The Paris mayor, Armenian Ambassador to France Hasmik Tolmajyan as well as leaders of the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCAF) delivered speeches at the meeting.
In her speech, the Armenian ambassador stated the need to condemn the Armenian Genocide denial, stressing its importance for the prevention of genocides and the international fight against crimes against humanity.
The diplomat also recalled that thousands of Genocide survivors had found refuge in France, stressing that their descendants preserved their national identity and at the same time became responsible citizens of France, making a great contribution to the development of the country and strengthening Armenian-French relations.
Tolmajyan also thanked the city government for always supporting Armenia and Artsakh. She recalled that the City Council of Paris adopted a resolution calling for the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh immediately after the start of the 44-day war in 2020.
