Motorcycle protest participants unlawfully detained in Yerevan; lawyer calls ombudsperson's attention
Three participants of a motorcycle protest were forcefully detained in central Yerevan on Tuesday, lawyer Arsen Babayan, a member of the opposition Homeland Party, said on social media.
He said that Martin Badalyan, Artur Harutyunyan and Tigran Gharibyan were detained at the intersection of Abovyan and Koryun streets.
"The footage of the detention shows that the officers of the special police forces had no grounds for detention and resorted to brute force to unlawfully detain them," Babayan wrote on Facebook.
He said that during the protest the driver who was carrying out an awareness campaign was pushed to the ground by police despite showing no resistance.
Babayan called Armenian Ombudsperson Kristine Grigoryan’s attention to the incident. He also said that some lawyers headed to police stations to provide assistance to the detainees.
