Opposition activists block traffic in central Yerevan
Armenian opposition activists and supporters have blocked traffic throughout central Yerevan since Monday morning as part of mass anti-government protests.
In a public post on Facebook, opposition leader Ishkhan Saghatelyan said Proshyan, Baghramyan, Teryan, Abovyan, Heratsi, Koryun, Sayat-Nova, Charents Streets, Tigran Mets and Arshakunyats Avenues as well as other streets in the capital were blocked.
Similar protests are also being held in other parts of Yerevan.
Saghatelyan, who represents the opposition Hayastan bloc, urged people to join the protest movement.
Thousands of opposition supporters rallied in Yerevan on Sunday to warn the Armenian government against concessions to Azerbaijan over Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
Addressing the rally, Saghatelyan announced a mass civil disobedience campaign to begin on Monday. The opposition protesters set up tents in Yerevan’s France Square and spent the night there.
