Another opposition rally to be held in Yerevan on Monday
According to preliminary data, police officers detained more than 200 opposition members and supporters blocking traffic in Yerevan as part of a mass civil disobedience campaign launched on Monday, opposition leader Ishkhan Saghatelyan told reporters.
He stated that numerous cases of police violence against protesters, including opposition lawmakers, were recorded during the demonstrations.
"However, this fight cannot be stopped. All is going according to the plan, people have stood up and know what they are fighting for," said the opposition leader.
Also, he noted that many groups of students have joined the protests.
The acts of civil disobedience will continue throughout the day, Saghatelyan said, adding the opposition will hold another rally in Yerevan’s France Square on Monday evening.
Thousands of opposition supporters rallied in Yerevan on Sunday to warn the Armenian government against concessions to Azerbaijan over Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). The opposition protesters set up tents in France Square and spent the night there.
