Police detain over 100 opposition protesters marching in Yerevan
Police officers have used excessive force to detain more than 100 participates in opposition marches being held in Yerevan, ARF Armenia leader Ishkhan Saghatelyan said.
Opposition protesters demanding that Nikol Pashinyan step down as Armenian prime minister began marching from four Yerevan districts to central France Square on Tuesday afternoon as part of a mass civil disobedience campaign launched on May 2.
"During the peaceful acts of disobedience, the police used disproportionate force to unlawfully detain more than 100 participants. The dignified citizens who constantly join the marches continue the work of the detained activists," Saghatelyan wrote on Facebook.
He says that the protests will continue until Pashinyan agrees to resign.
Another opposition rally is planned to be held in France Square on Tuesday evening.
