Artur Vanetsyan says he'll quit as MP if protest movement does not succeed
Artur Vanetsyan, who leads the opposition Homeland Party and With Honor (Pativ Unem) parliamentary faction, has announced that he will step down as an MP if the protest campaign launched by Armenia’s opposition groups does not succeed.
His comments came at a march following a big rally in Yerevan’s France Square on Sunday evening.
“If this movement does not succeed, there will be no place for me in the Armenian National Assembly anymore,” the opposition leader says in a video posted on the Facebook page of the Homeland Party summing up Sunday’s protests.
Addressing the rally, Vanetsyan ruled out a split in the protest movement.
“There can be no split in what concerns our country, homeland and people," he stressed.
The anti-government protests began in Armenia in April after Nikol Pashinyan hinted at concessions over Artsakh, saying that the international community wanted Yerevan to "lower the bar" on its status.
