Armenian opposition to hold rally in Yerevan's France Square on Tuesday evening
The Armenian opposition is suspending its campaign of civil disobedience to hold a rally in Yerevan’s France Square, the scene of daily rallies, on Tuesday evening, opposition leader Ishkhan Saghatelyan said, going live on Facebook.
Opposition protesters blocked dozens of streets in Yerevan on Tuesday morning as part of the ongoing campaign demanding that PM Nikol Pashinyan resign, paralyzing traffic in the city. The police used force to detain hundreds of peaceful demonstrators.
“We have completely accomplished our task. Our citizens have proved today that they are in control of the situation, Nikol [Pashinyan] has no power and the use of brute force by the police cannot help suppress the popular uprising," Saghatelyan said.
He called for an end to the acts of civil disobedience at 11:30am and announced a rally in France Square at 7pm.
“This movement is unstoppable and your victory is inevitable,” said Saghatelyan, a deputy parliament speaker.
