Lithuanian president's motorcade arrives at Armenian presidential residence amid anti-Pashinyan chants
Opposition demonstrators demanding Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation “met” the motorcade of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausseda entering the area of the Armenian presidential residence at 26 Baghramyan Avenue on Friday, chanting "Nikol the traitor!", "Armenia without Nikol!" and "Shame!”.
The Lithuanian delegation was welcomed by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan at the entrance of the residence.
A police cordon prevented Resistance Movement supporters from approaching the gates of the building.
"You are negotiating with a man who does not represent the interests of the Armenian people. Nikol, the traitor, has no popular mandate to negotiate over or reach any agreement on Artsakh,” organizers said via a loudspeaker.
Opposition protesters next headed to the Armenia Marriott Hotel in central Yerevan where a democracy forum was being held.
"A forum of alleged freedom of speech, the media, civil society organizations and unions is being held there. We are heading there to tell them that freedom of expression and the media is being violated in Armenia, there are dozens of political prisoners, while human rights organizations or civil society remain inactive,” opposition MP Gegham Manukyan announced.
