Hayk Kyureghyan, Yerevan resident who opened fire outside court, went on hunger strike: convict’s father
Hayk Kyureghyan, a Yerevan resident who on June 12, 2014, opened fire outside the general jurisdiction court of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts in Yerevan, has been on hunger strike for 24 days and is now completely emaciated, the convict’s father – Armenak Kyureghyan said in a statement.
According to him, after imprisonment his son began suffering from serious health problems, and he did not get effective treatment. Armenak Kyureghyan said that his son’s “life and health are in danger, but his spirit is unbending”.
Armenak Kyureghyan also said that the authorities are responsible for the life and health of his son – just like of any other prisoner - and the authorities “must ensure their security, and not adopt the manner of political revenge”.
On June 12, 2014, Hayk Kyureghyan, 31, climbed atop a car parked in the yard of the court of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash districts, and declared there was a bomb in the car. He disobeyed the legal orders of policemen, pulled a pistol and fired at them. Several law enforcers received wounds and were hospitalized. In September 2015 Hayk Kyureghyan was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
