Opposition leader: Armenian government building will also be blocked
The Armenian opposition also plans to block the government building as part of its ongoing civil disobedience campaign to topple Nikol Pashinyan, parliament vice speaker and opposition leader Ishkhan Saghatelyan told a news conference on Thursday.
Opposition demonstrators blocked access to the presidential palace and the Foreign Ministry during daily street protests on Tuesday and Wednesday, preventing employees from entering or leaving them for hours.
"We blocked not only the presidential palace, but also the adjacent Security Council building. According to information provided to us, the presidential palace employs 155 people, while the number of the Security Council employees is a bit lower,” Saghatelyan said, explaining the opposition moves.
"The task was to block state agencies. The dignified citizens of Armenia, in fact, disrupted the work of the agencies for about 3 hours. We completely fulfilled the task set before us," he noted.
“Based on the available resources and the situation, we decide when and which building to block. The day will come when the government's headquarters will also be blocked,” Saghatelyan said.
