Opposition protesters start march in Yerevan
Opposition demonstrators started a march from France Square in central Yerevan on Monday morning as part of the ongoing civil disobedience campaign to topple Nikol Pashinyan.
They headed to different government agencies and educational institutions to find out the position of their employees on the draft statement pushed through the National Assembly by the two opposition blocs, deputy parliament speaker and opposition leader Ishkhan Saghatelyan announced.
“We are marching to different ministries and other state agencies to get to know everyone’s stance [on the resolution]. This is also a good opportunity for many government officials to distance themselves from Nikol [Pashinyan] and avoid responsibility for the destruction of the country,” he said.
MPs from the opposition Hayastan and With Honor (Pativ Unem) blocs planned to enter the government buildings heavily guarded by police officers to meet with ministers.
The parliamentary majority representing Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party said that they would not attend a special parliament session sought by the opposition on June 3 to discuss the statement.
