Levon Kocharyan: Pashinyan 'rejoices' when he sees police beating up protesters
The plans of the current Armenian authorities and those of Turkey and Azerbaijan “coincide” and the opposition has stood up to fight against them, Levon Kocharyan, the son of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan, told reporters at an opposition protest in Yerevan on Tuesday.
He claims the authorities are trying to push ahead with their “treacherous plot”, saying protesters have taken to the streets to oppose it.
“If it had not been for the street protests, Nikol Pashinyan would have definitely signed some document by now. We are trying to stop it," he said.
Speaking about the excessive force used by riot police against opposition demonstrators, Kocharyan said that the number of police officers and their use of force “is directly proportional to the fears of the man holding the prime minister’s post.”
"Once he [Nikol Pashinyan] said: my soul rejoices when the batons are taken away from police officers. Now his soul is probably rejoicing when he sees the police beating up protesters, using brute force against them and breaking their legs," he noted.
