Pashinyan, Putin hold phone call
Nikol Pashinyan on Wednesday held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Armenian government’s press office reported.
The Russian president congratulated the prime minister of Armenia on his birthday, wishing him all the best. Pashinyan thanked the Russian leader for the phone call on his birthday and stressed that he highly appreciates the warm, friendly attitude of the Russian president.
The interlocutors also discussed a number of issues on the Armenia-Russia bilateral agenda, touched upon regional issues, the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Putin welcomed the first meeting of the demarcation and border security commission between Armenia and Azerbaijan and reaffirmed Russia's readiness to support the border demarcation process. It was emphasized that according to the agreement, the next meeting of the commission will be held in Moscow.
The sides referred to the issue of opening regional communications and an agreement was reached to intensify the work of the trilateral working group.
Pashinyan shared to the Russian president his impressions of the recent meeting in Brussels, expressing concern over the comments following the meeting that have nothing to do with the substance of the discussions.
In accordance with the provisions of the joint statement of Armenia’s prime minister and the Russian president of April 19, the interlocutors also discussed issues related to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, in particular, the possibility of intensifying the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs’ format.
