FM: Armenia expects greater efforts from Russia for repatriation of POWs
Armenia experts Russia to make greater efforts towards the release of Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) and other detained persons still being held in Azerbaijan in violation of international humanitarian norms, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said on Thursday.
“Armenia highly values Russia's efforts to fulfill the provisions of the trilateral statement of 9 November 2020, particularly concerning the return of Armenian POWs,” he told a joint news conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, who is in Yerevan on a working visit, adding due to Russia’s efforts some Armenian captives have been repatriated.
"Meanwhile, almost one and a half years after the end of hostilities, Azerbaijan, in violation of international humanitarian norms, disrupts the implementation of the provisions of the statement, refusing to release Armenian POWs and other detainees. We hope that the Russian side will make greater efforts to that end," Mirzoyan said.
