Moscow ready to help Yerevan, Baku make a peace deal, Lavrov says
Russia is ready to contribute to peace settlement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference in Yerevan on Thursday, TASS reported.
"We have reiterated our readiness to assist in the conclusion of a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku and to solve humanitarian issues still facing the region," Lavrov said after talks with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan.
The Russian diplomat also said Moscow welcomed the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey. "This should help improve the regional situation in general," he stressed.
Lavrov called for a "rhythmic" cooperation between the three South Caucasus nations and the three neighboring countries, saying this was an important additional channel for establishing dialogue and various contacts in the region.
"We agree on the need to stringently implement the agreements reached between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia," Lavrov said, pointing to the documents signed in November 2020, and January and November 2021. Russia's diplomacy chief also thanked his Armenian counterpart for a high assessment of the role Russian peacekeepers had been playing in maintaining peace and security in the region.
