Court hearing in Igor Khachaturov's case not held
A court hearing of an appeal against the arrest of Igor Khachaturov, the son of former Armenian army and CSTO chief Yuri Khachaturov, was not held on Friday amid the absence of the presiding judge, his lawyer Mihran Poghosyan said in a live video on Facebook, showing the empty courtroom.
The Court of Criminal Appeals was to review the legality of Khachaturov's arrest. Under the Armenian law, the court must check the legality of the decision within three days. The court extended the term by one day, reasoning that it had received the case materials late.
The chairman of the Court of Appeals told Poghosyan that a hearing in the case was scheduled for Friday morning.
“However, judge Tigran Simonyan did not get in touch with us and did not come to today's hearing," he said, adding the prosecutor also did not appear in court.
Igor Khachaturov was arrested on charges of assaulting a police officer at opposition protests in Yerevan in May. He has denied the allegation.
