Lawyers ask court to shut down Yerevan office of Open Society Foundations
Armenian lawyers Tigran Atanesyan and Margarita Gyulumyan have asked a first instance court to close down the Yerevan office of American billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundations.
In a lawsuit filed in the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction on Monday, the lawyers also asked the court to suspend the operations of the office pending a ruling in the case, Atanesyan said.
"Given the urgency of the issue and the length of the court proceedings as well as to prevent possible threats, we have petitioned the court to immediately suspend the activities of Soros’ offshore office until a verdict is delivered and the infamous office is finally kicked out of Armenia," he wrote on Facebook.
Atanesyan unveiled plans to take legal action against the Open Society Foundations Armenia earlier in May, claiming that its operations "threaten national security and public order".
