Opposition resolution not put on Armenian parliament agenda
MPs from Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party on Tuesday abstained from voting on an opposition-drafted resolution on relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Civil Contract MP Hayk Konjoryan announced his faction’s decision not to take part in the vote at the parliament session boycotted by opposition lawmakers.
Thus, the voting did not take place and the draft statement was not put on the agenda.
The opposition Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions drafted the resolution rejecting any peace deal that would make Artsakh a part of Azerbaijan in late May.
The document also warned against any territorial concessions to Azerbaijan as a result of demarcation and delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
It said that the demarcation process must start only after Azerbaijan releases all Armenian prisoners and pulls its troops out of Armenia’s sovereign territory.
The resolution also addressed the Armenian-Turkish normalization process, saying any deal cannot call into question that genocide was committed against the Armenian people.
Opposition MPs called a special parliament session on 3 June to debate the draft statement, but it was blocked by the parliamentary majority.
