CoE chief: Representatives of Armenian and Azerbaijani civil societies agreed to continue dialogue
Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić says she is “encouraged” by the series of meetings between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the related announcements, including on the activity of the commission on border demarcation and delimitation.
Speaking at a joint news conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan, she said trust and reconciliation should be achieved in all these initiatives.
"In this regard, I am glad that the first exploratory meeting between civil society representatives from Armenia and Azerbaijan took place in Venice from 16 to 18 May under the auspices of the Council of Europe,” Burić said.
“The participants agreed to continue the dialogue and work towards possible joint initiatives. I am very grateful to the Armenian authorities for supporting our initiative," she noted.
