ARF's Ishkhan Saghatelyan talks Karabakh with MEPs
ARF Armenia Chair Ishkhan Saghatelyan, an MP from the opposition Hayastan bloc, on Thursday met at the European Parliament with the chair of the European Parliament delegation for relations with the South Caucasus, MEP Marina Kaljurand, and MEP Pedro Marques, S&D Group vice-president for foreign affairs.
During the meeting, issues related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the EU-brokered negotiation process as well as the circumstances necessary for the establishment of a durable peace in the South Caucasus were discussed in detail, the ARF said in a statement.
Ishkhan Saghatelyan stressed the need to recognize the right of Artsakh’s people to self-determination as a prerequisite for the final settlement of the conflict. He also noted that any other solution would lead to a new war or ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The ARF Armenia leader also highlighted that the Armenian people strive for peace, but it must be “dignified”.
Saghatelyan raised the issue of Armenian prisoners of war being held in Azerbaijan. He also spoke about the ongoing domestic political processes in Armenia.
