Armenian FM, top U.S. official discuss security issues
Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Sunday held a phone call with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried.
In a press release, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said the conversation took place at the initiative of the United States.
Mirzoyan and Donfried discussed a number of issues concerning regional security and stability.
The minster briefed the top U.S. official on the latest developments in the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The sides touched upon the unblocking of regional transport infrastructures and economic ties as well as the activity of the Armenian and Azerbaijani commissions on delimitation and border security.
Also, they exchanged views on the meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Tbilisi, which was hosted by Georgia on July 16. Mirzoyan stressed that the Armenian side continues to attach importance to the role of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
