Heatwave to subside in Armenia from Friday, says chief meteorologist
The heatwave in Armenia is expected to subside starting from Friday, July 22, chief meteorologist Gagik Surenyan told a news conference on Monday.
The warm spell with its origins in the Arabian Peninsula has gripped Armenia since July 10, with temperatures of up to 40C recorded in some parts of the country, including in the capital Yerevan. Temperatures hit 41C in Yerevan and the Ararat Valley on Sunday.
Surenyan, the deputy head of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center, says the heatwave is expected to weaken from July 22 and shift eastwards, giving way to the relatively cold air masses from the Black Sea.
“From July 22 to 25, temperatures are set to drop by 4-5C. Temperatures of 34-35C are expected in the Ararat Valley and Yerevan instead of 38-40C on 23-24 July,” the meteorologist said.
Meanwhile, Surenyan says the chances of rain are low in the country after Friday.
