Armenian parliament council fails to meet amid lack of quorum
The Armenian parliament leadership failed to hold a special sitting amid a lack of quorum on Friday.
The National Assembly Council consisting of Speaker Alen Simonyan, his two deputies and chairs of the parliament’s standing committees was set to discuss an appeal to the Constitutional Court to strip opposition MPs boycotting parliament sessions of their seats.
The council was to debate the matter last week, but the meeting was postponed for a week due to the absence of opposition deputies from the Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions.
Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan told reporters that the ruling Civil Contract party had decided not to apply to the top court, citing several reasons.
