Former Armenian top prosecutor's lawyers seek his release amid health concerns
The lawyers of Armenia’s former Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan seek to have him released from custody due to health concerns.
The defense team has filed a motion to the court to revoke his arrest, one of Hovsepyan’s lawyers, Erik Aleksanyan, said in a Facebook post on Monday.
Hovsepyan, who is suffering from diabetes, was taken to Izmirlian Medical Center in Yerevan on 28 July.
“His blood sugar levels rose to 31.6 mmol/L and then reduced, but it may happen again,” Aleksanyan wrote, adding he has developed diabetes complications.
Aghvan Hovsepyan was arrested in September 2021 on charges of bribery, money laundering and illegal entrepreneurial activity denied by him.
Hovsepyan also ran the Investigative Committee from 2014 to 2018.
