Opposition MP slams arrest of former Artsakh army chief
MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction took to Facebook on Wednesday to denounce the arrest of Mikayel Arzumanyan, a former commander of the Artsakh Defense Army and an incumbent advisor to the Artsakh president.
Arzumanyan was arrested on Tuesday on charges of negligence and dereliction of his official duties during the 2020 war with Azerbaijan.
“There is no doubt that the commanders of the armed forces and not only are next in line and many more will be detained/arrested. However, Arzumanyan's arrest, apart from being part of Nikol Pashinyan's thirst for political blood feud, is also symbolic: the Brussels meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev is ahead, and this is a "gesture of goodwill" by the Armenian authorities in advance of the meeting,” Abrahamyan wrote.
The MP highlighted that the Artsakh president had not been told about his advisor’s planned arrest. He also blasted the footage of the arrest featuring “masked and tough guys.”
“They have arrested everyone, from cooks of military units to national heroes, but the man primarily responsible for the war,” the deputy said.
