Former head of Armenia's Ayntap community charged
The former head of Ayntap, a community in Armenia’s Ararat Province, has been charged with abuse of office and fraud, the Investigative Committee reported on Thursday.
Karen Sargsyan, who currently serves as deputy head of the Masis community, headed Ayntap from 2010 to 2021.
The Investigative Committee said Sargsyan falsified data, did not take any steps to prevent illegal construction and did not fine the violators. In addition, he falsified documents in order to sell the community territory of 0.03676 hectares to his brother in 2014.
Sargsyan also reportedly forged documents to illegally acquire various land plots, including those adjacent to the Yerevan-Meghri highway and illegal buildings, and sell them to three other persons.
He has been suspended from official duties pending the outcome of the probe into the case.
