Artsakh MPs call for release of former army commander
Artsakh parliament deputies have asked the Armenian law enforcement authorities to release former Artsakh Defense Army commander Mikayel Arzumanyan from pre-trial custody.
Lieutenant-General Mikayel Arzumanyan was arrested last week on charges of criminal negligence and abuse of power during the 2020 war. The Investigative Committee essentially blamed him for the fall of fortress town Shushi during the 44-day war.
The lawmakers have petitioned Armenia’s Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan and Chairman of the Investigation Committee Argishti Kyaramyan to replace arrest with another measure of restraint, the Artsakh National Assembly reported on Tuesday.
Mikayel Arzumanyan currently serves as an advisor to the Artsakh president.
