'Cynical lie or memory loss': Lawyer hits out at Armenian parliament speaker
Lawyer Arsen Babayan, a senior member of the opposition Homeland Party, on Saturday lashed out at National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan following his claims about the 2021 snap parliamentary elections.
The senior lawmaker from the ruling Civil Contract party said on Friday that the opposition did not challenge the 2021 early election results.
“Alen Simonyan’s statement is either a cynical lie or he is suffering from memory loss,” Babayan wrote on Facebook.
“First, the opposition challenged the results of the 2021 snap parliamentary elections in the Constitutional Court. The hearings lasted between 6 to 7 days and were fully broadcast also on the Public TV Company.
“Second, Nikol Pashinyan did not challenge the results of the 2017 parliamentary elections won by the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). Pashinyan publicly announced that the election outcome was fully in line with the decision made by each voter. His statement can be found online,” the lawyer said.
