Opposition to continue push for regime change in Armenia, leader says
The opposition will continue to push for change of government in Armenia, one of its leaders and a Hayastan bloc MP, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, reiterated on Monday.
The opposition Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions announced last week the decision to continue boycotting sessions of the National Assembly in the fight against the “parliamentary majority’s illegal activities”.
Speaking at an opposition conference on the “real agenda of Armenia”, Saghatelyan accused the ruling Civil Contract party of ignoring the major security challenges facing Armenia.
"Armenia's primary and real agenda is to ensure the security of Armenia and Artsakh, which requires the establishment of a national line. We have received a mandate from citizens to push ahead this agenda. Whereas, the current authorities and parliamentary majority not only fail to serve this agenda, but also work against it, creating new threats for us," the opposition leader said.
“The ruling team that promised de-occupation of Hadrut and Shushi and gained votes for it, among other things, refused to condemn in the parliament the Turkish-Azerbaijani declaration signed in Shushi. They refused to attend a special parliament sitting called by the opposition to adopt a statement on Armenia's red lines. In particular, it was supposed to declare that Artsakh can never be part of Azerbaijan.
“Therefore, they must be left alone in their choice to serve the enemy's agenda. The international community must see and understand that the Armenian people are the masters of their homeland, while Civil Contract is alone in its efforts to sell out Artsakh,” Saghatelyan underlined.
He highlighted the opposition push for regime change and the workout of a “rescue plan” as the only way out of the current situation.
