Stripping opposition MPs of their seats can be discussed in December, speaker says
The boycott of parliament sessions announced by the opposition factions will not affect the reputation of the legislative body due to its high legitimacy, National Assembly speaker Alen Simonyan told reporters on Monday.
He called the parliament boycott by the Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions and their decision to hold discussions outside parliament “not serious”.
The speaker said stripping opposition lawmakers of their parliament seats for absenteeism can be discussed after the end of the parliament session in December.
“But I am sure that they will try to somehow avoid it, either by submitting a medical paper or making an appearance with their "own agenda" to ensure attendance. At the end of the year, when the attendance figures are summed up, the issue will enter the council and a decision will be made,” Simonyan said.
