Armenian parliament starts autumn session amid opposition boycott
The autumn session of the Armenian National Assembly kicked off on Monday amid a boycott announced by the two opposition factions. 45 items are on the agenda of parliament sittings.
In a statement on Friday, the Hayastan faction announced its decision to continue the parliament boycott which the opposition began in April.
“We will continue to use the internationally accepted tool of political boycott in the fight against the parliamentary majority’s illegal activities,” the statement said.
Tigran Abrahamyan, a senior MP from the Pativ Unem faction, also said he and his colleagues had no plans to return to parliament.
“Our decision regarding the boycott hasn’t changed,” Abrahamian told RFE/RL’s Armenian Service.
The opposition factions also unveiled plans to hold a conference on “the real agenda of Armenia” on September 12-13.
