Opposition MP calls for martial law, mobilization in Armenia
MP Seyran Ohanyan of the opposition Hayastan alliance stresses the need for martial law and general mobilization in Armenia following a large-scale Azerbaijani attack.
“It is necessary to introduce martial law and declare mobilization to replenish the border troops and back the army," he told reporters Wednesday.
He blamed the “ignorance and treacherous conduct” of the incumbent authorities for the border situation.
Ohanyan, a former defense minister, also praised the Armenian soldiers for “heroism and bravery” in repelling Azerbaijani attacks.
He urged Armenians to keep calm and follow official updates on the situation.
Azerbaijani forces launched a massive attack against Armenia just after midnight on Tuesday, using combat drones, artillery and large-caliber firearms. At least 49 Armenian troops were killed in nighttime Azerbaijani attacks.
Towns and villages in Armenia’s Gegharkunik, Syunik and Vayots Dzor Provinces came under Azerbaijani shelling. An Armenian ambulance was reportedly hit on the Kapan-Chakaten highway.
Four civilians are confirmed to be injured. At least 2,570 people have been displaced from their homes in Gegharkunik.
