Parents of fallen soldiers demand Pashinyan's impeachment
Dozens of parents of Armenian soldiers killed in the 2020 Artsakh war and their suppoters gathered outside the Armenian National Assembly on Wednesday to demand the impeachment of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
They want lawmakers to put forward a motion for no-confidence in the premier.
The police clad in riot gear cordoned off the area, blocking off Demirchyan Street from which lawmakers mostly enter the parliament building.
The leader of the Independence Movement, Edgar Ghazaryan said he and several other volunteers spent the night outside the National Assembly.
“We urged citizens to join us in the morning to pressure MPs into meeting us and propose them to initiate a vote of no-confidence in Pashinyan,” he said in a live video on Facebook.
Ghazaryan denounced the police move to bar protesters from entering Demirchyan Street as “unlawful”.
"Our homeland is in danger and at this moment of danger the country is led by the biggest enemy of the Armenian people, Nikol Pashinyan, whose immediate ouster would clear the way for peace and security. I believe thousands of people will join us in our struggle,” the oppositionist said.
