Anti-Pashinyan protest held outside Armenian government
Members and supporters of the opposition 5165 movement led by Karin Tonoyan, whose son was killed in the 2020 Artsakh war, staged a protest outside the Armenian government building in downtown Yerevan on Friday morning to demand Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation.
Tonoyan announced the launch of a civil disobedience campaign aimed at toppling Pashinyan and his cabinet on Thursday.
YSU lecturer Menua Soghomonyan urged all to take to the streets for peaceful acts of civil disobedience.
“The current regime, that has brought pain and suffering to the people for over four years of its rule, keeps stressing us out,” he told reporters. “I believe our efforts to oust the current government will be successful.”
Karin Tonoyan vowed consistent struggle for a change of government in Armenia, accusing the incumbent authorities of “deceiving and using the people”.
"We are going to fight until victory, which may take a lot of time. Azerbaijan will not calm down as long as this man [referring to Pashinyan] remains in power,” the oppositionist said, referring to the latest Azerbaijani attacks against Armenia, which killed at least 135 Armenian soldiers.
“The authorities are going to sign new documents, cede swathes of territory and roads [to Azerbaijan], sacrificing us and our children. Only a persistent struggle can guarantee success,” Tonoyan stated.
